The word Halloween is first attested in the 16th century and represents a Scottish variant of the fuller All-Hallows-Even (“evening”), that is, the night before All Hallows Day. Although the phrase All Hallows is found in Old English (ealra hālgena mæssedæg, mass-day of all saints), All-Hallows-Even is itself not attested until 1556 (Wikipedia.org). So what does that all mean to the rest of us? A time to dress in absurd costumes and act like debauched children for a day, or a week, whatever best suites you
A co-worker and I had first planned to dress up as our bosses favorite, yet freakishly weird musicians “Coco Rosie” (don’t know them? watch their “Lemonade” Music Video and you will understand – Yes they are actually women), but instead I went with a classic choice from my childhood – Oscar the Grouch – Reminds me of the Chapelle Show Skit (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xCbU_11hx8Y).
In order of Appearance, from Left to Right: Top Gun, Mr Fiesta, Buccaneer, White Trash, Priest to the Children, Oscar the Grouch, 80’s Girl, Queen of Hearts and Lady Gaga x 2
Cheers,
Drew
