UI/UX engineer

We are looking for someone who really cares about what they build. Our lean team is talented and our product is profitable. Hopefully, you have clever ideas for interesting products that will challenge us and make an immediate impact. Our small development team with little management hierarchy packs a punch, and drives development of a platform that will soon manage millions of dollars. Hours depend on how much you’re willing to get done and competitive pay and equity come with salads, hot pizza, and beers if that’s your thing.

Sample projects and portfolios are a big plus.

What You’ll Bring:

Ability to bring unique and creative ideas to complex problems

Willingness to challenge yourself, our founders, and the development team

Comfort working in a fluid and growing industry (projected to grow 5x in the next five years)

Desire to dominate our competitors

Facility in managing your own time and motivating yourself

Entrepreneurial spirit

Knack for finding solutions without being chaperoned

What You’ll Do:

Influence and build the engine behind a major, growing Facebook advertising platform

Collaborate across teams to develop dashboards, analytics interfaces, data feeds, and other tools

Target 2:1 ratio of development versus systems/architecture responsibilities

What You’ll Use:

LAMPython, django

JavaScript, jQuery, YUI

Pens, papers, and your brains

They are also looking for entrepreneurial spirit, and education from a good school-ideally with good grades.

Each limited-time sale event offers privileged prices on the best brands and experiences. Most sale events start at noon ET and last only 40 hours.

Launched in 2007 and headquartered in the Soho neighborhood of New York City, the company now has over 4 million members across the United States.

Responsibilities

We’re growing the team again and we’re looking for someone who can lead a handful of developers. You’ll report to the Director of Technology and work closely with the other Rails Team Leads to collectively deliver much needed features to the business, release after release.

Of course, you know how to build robust, fault-tolerant software and contribute to the design of new features to ensure that they scale to hundreds of request per second. You want to work hard in a fast paced environment with very smart people.

So, that’s you who are we? We are an exciting, venture-funded community/commerce company implemented entirely in Ruby on Rails. We used to call ourselves a startup, but are now edging out of that category; we’ve been around for a few years and have real users and real revenues.

Java Developer

Objective:
This company is looking for a sharp mid-level Java developer to join its growing technical team in New York City. We need the best of the best, someone who has never met a problem they couldn’t solve, the kind of programmer whose pride keeps her awake until she finds that perfect bit of code (or dirty little hack) to get the project back on track. We need someone that loves to write elegant code but even more than that, loves to make things WORK. We need a coder who’s still growing in the profession but already sees things through the eyes of an architect – someone who thinks about the big picture no matter the task. We need a developer that always codes with performance, scalability, maintainability and concurrency in mind. We need a hacker who reads code like a book and enjoys digging into unfamiliar source, someone who can debug another’s code as easily as they can debug their own. In short, we’re looking for you!

Environment:

You’ll be working a maturing start-up where everywhere still digs in like it’s day one. Here you’ll be moving at the kind of pace you love: fast. The team is still relatively small, so don’t worry about getting pigeon-holed here – you’ll be expected to wear many hats and encouraged to contribute in all phases of development and architecture. Everyone here is extremely talented and a growing expert in their field. At this company you’ll never have to feel like you’re the only one giving it everything you’ve got!

Responsibilities:

Work with the technical team on the development of the
website’s application platform.

Collaborate with senior technical team members on design and
architecture of new features, feature enhancements and general
improvements to the application.

Participate in the overall maintenance of the application, including
bug fixes, performance
enhancements and runtime production support.

Write clean, well-documented and unit-tested code.

As needed, generate technical documentation for various aspects of
the application.

Work with front-end (UI) developers to integrate server-side code
with UI artifacts.

Experience/Skills:

At least 4 years experience designing enterprise web applications on the Java/J2EE stack.

Strong expertise with J2EE technologies and frameworks, particularly Spring, Hibernate, JSP and JSF, but with the ability to code a straight servlet or straight JDBC.

Expertise in writing database-backed applications, strong knowledge of relational database concepts like SQL, indexes and constraints, transactions and object-relational mapping. Specific experience with MySQL a plus.

Strong familiarity with the J2EE development environment, including containers like Tomcat or JBoss, Ant or Maven-based build processes, JUnit and IDEs like Eclipse or NetBeans.

Strong understanding of core software concepts of object-oriented programming, algorithms, data structures and design patterns.

Familiarity with *nix, including basics like grep, tail, ssh, scp, netstat, etc. Preference will be given to vi jockeys and ssh tunnelers.

Excellent communication skills, ability to convey ideas and suggestions across multiple parties in the company

Experience in, and eagerness for, working in the rapid-fire environment of a young, dynamic startup.

Attributes:

Passion for building high-quality web applications

Self-starter with the ability to work under pressure on multiple tasks

High energy and a positive attitude in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, start-up environment

Bachelorʼs degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent work experience. You should be able to explain big O notation without looking on Wikipedia!

Excellent communication skills, ability to convey ideas and suggestions across multiple parties in the company.

A leading competitor in both the Los Angeles and San Francisco Bay Technical Recruiting Market, Expanxion is expanding yet again… That’s right- as of January 2012, we will be launching Expanxion into the New York Market. What does this mean for you as a Client Company? We provide you with an even larger scale of highly qualified candidates. What does this mean for our Candidates? We can offer you even greater position opportunities across multiple markets… It means, we have your best interest at hand and we can’t wait to show you!

Because Expanxion is growing at an extraordinary rate especially on behalf of our new pursuits, we have hired a few new team members who will specialize in our integration into the New York market. Essentially, our L.A, and Bay Area teams will continue to provide highly competitive solutions while our new team will strengthen and expand Expanxion’s leverage on the East Coast. We are very excited and proud of Expanxion’s growth as we are looking forward to working with the opportunities that follow.

On another note, we will be making a greater effort to blog more frequently. At Expanxion, part of our success is our team relationships and team building opportunities that enable us to work together and provide you with the best solutions possible. We want to share our most recent events such as our team appreciation days where the whole company will take an afternoon at the pool or go to ‘iFly” (indoor skydiving- you must try it!), or even have a wine/cheese hour where we chat and catch up.

I admittedly have been an avid gamer since I was a young kid; my parents would NOT allow me to get a Nintendo, so I would always end up at the neighbors/friends after school playing on their console. Finally obtained my first console (SNES) when I was probably around 7 or 8, subscribed to Nintendo Power and it was all downhill from there lol. How does that saying go: “If I had a Penny for Every________, I would be Rich!” Mine would have read: “If I had a Penny for Every Countless Hour I Spent Playing Video Games, I would be a Billionaire”. Although in recent years (probably the past 5 or 6 years) I have fallen out of touch with the gaming world until the recent surge of COD and the MW Series. Crazy to think back on how much the gaming world has evolved since I was a kid: 8-bit Handhelds to Xbox Connect and Sony Move, 2D to 3D Worlds to 3D Games. I recently had a chance to experience that technological advancement in gaming this year at E3 (Electronics Entertainment Expo) for the first time, thanks to a family friend who works at Konami!

Jordan (Friend/Former Colleague) and I arrived to a busy scene Tuesday morning at the LA Convention Center where E3 was being held. We quickly hopped in the Will Call line to pick up our badges, only to find out that Jordan’s name was no where to be found in the system. I made a quick call to my friend at Konami and BAM: Jordan transformed into Dante LOL. Credentialed, Jordan and I grabbed a quick bite to eat and then headed into the main showroom (South Hall) for E3. First stop was the Konami booth to say hello to my friend, unfortunately she was no where to be found. Inside the Konami exhibit Jordan and I observed 1vs1 gameplay setup for DDR. As we were contemplating battling one another, a Konami Rep approached us and asked us if we would like to play, we asked if he was any good and he said “Yes, very good in fact”. So of course Jordan and I asked for a demo in expert mode lol. Hands down one of the funniest things to watch, but I will give credit where credit is due – he killed it! As the day progressed we met with our friends at Square-Enix, checked out the MW3 Trailer at Activision and were honored with a tour of Rachet & Clank” All 4 One 3D and Resistance 3 by the Lead Programmer/Friend!

All in all E3 was fun, but I guess I had higher expectations (was hoping for some cool swag, MW3 gameplay and more next gen gaming).

Cheers,
